Craftin Desert Divas: Sneak Peek Release Week (Fall Fairies)

Image
Welcome! I'm loving Craftin Desert Divas August release! Here is a card I created - a little sneak peek at the Fall Fairies stamp set. I've created quite a few scene cards recently but this is one of my favourites this year. I don't often use stencils or distress inks (even though I have the whole set of ink colours!) but with the new Hill Scene 2 stencil I thought I'd challenge myself and try a simple ink blending of clouds in my background. Pumpkin Fairy Copic Markers: YR12/YR15/YR16/YR18 G02/G03/G05/G07 Skin: E000/E00/E01/E02   R20 Wings: R0000/R000/R00/R01 Mushroom Fairy Copic Markers:  Skin: E000/E00/E01/E02  R20 Wings: G0000/G000/G00 B01/B02/B04/B05 R20/R21/R22/R24/R27/R29 In the past I've tried ink blending clouds but never been happy with the results. I did a little testing and asked around for tips on how to improve my technique and I'm happy I challenged myself to try this again! For this card I ink blended on watercolou...

Uniquely Creative: Light Bulb Moment!

Image
Last year I played around with masking and blending - creating sunbeams/light beams and created a quick video tutorial when I made these cards - here . I thought I'd revisit this technique but try a rainbow colour scheme instead! I had the perfect die to play around with too! I'm using Uniquely Creative dies - Light Bulbs Set 2 along with Jillibean Soup stamps. I played around with a few stamping ideas and created three more cards - which you can view below. Super fun die and stamp set to play with - I especially enjoyed making the card below. I love the contrast between the black and the pops of colour from the distress ink. I also love the dimension in this card. Thanks for stopping by!

Ink Road Stamps: Friday Feature...

Image
Today I'm sharing a few cards I created, which are now also up on Ink Road Stamps blog. Each Friday members in this design team will showcase a featured stamp set. The stamp set on show today is: Ink Road Stamp: Compliments Vol.1 Here are my cards using the stamp set above:  To create these cards I used a resist watercolour technique. I stamped my sentiment and heat embossed it in white. I then applied distress ink to my craft mat, sprayed with water and applied it to areas of my watercolour card. The stamped sentiment resisted the watercolour and created this fun background. I then decided to add interest by sewing (quite randomly) and finished the cards off by heat embossing the sentiment on black card and embellishing with sequins and a few geometric/heart shapes.   Mess aside - this technique was a lot of fun and perfect to showcase this sentiment set. Thanks for stopping by and feel free to check out the Ink Road Stamp...

Craftie Cafe: Happy Halloween with Ghosties!

Image
Let me just say – I do not celebrate Halloween (though I may or may not buy and snack on a few of the jumbo sized candy bags that become available in the lead up towards it.) But … Halloween seems to be gaining popularity here in Australia and let’s be honest I’m not going to pass up an opportunity to work with Halloweens awesome colour scheme - oranges, purple and black! When we were given this theme from our lovely Craftie Café co-ordinator I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to play with. I was browsing their web store for a few days before I settled on the Impression Obsession die – Ghosties. I originally wanted something that could be used again because I’m also one who likes to be able to get the most out of what I buy especially when it comes to craft supplies! There were a number of dies that would have worked with the card design I made – cats, bats, witches, pumpkins, skeleton, even owls! I searched for these words using the Craftie Café search engine and really h...

Craftie Café: Wplus9 Encouraging Words.

Image
I’m back again sharing a whole bunch of cards that I made for Craftie Café! The theme this month is graduation but I couldn’t pass up this WPlus9 stamp set – Encouraging words . So these cards are probably more pre-graduation… something I’d give to someone about to take their exams or even about to have their first job/interview. Either way – they’re very empowering cards meant to encourage a person in whatever they need to achieve. I’ve also been meaning to make a rainbow series of cards– everyone seems to be jumping on this colour scheme and there are a few ways to achieve this look – I’ve used distress inks and simple repetitive stamping but I’ve seen a few cards where these colours have been blended using a blending tool and also love the look of this technique. Certainly a technique I wish to explore more. These cards are bright and colourful – and rainbows seemed appropriate for this type of card. Below you will find a list of supplies (with links) used to make these car...

Another Masking Tutorial!

Image
As promised I wanted to share another quick photo tutorial. Again using a mask this time with a stencil! This is such a great simple technique - and I do love getting the most out of my inks! So I made two cards using a stencil (Kaisercraft) and Distress Inks - Blueprint Sketch, Tumbled Glass, and Salty Ocean. I first cut some white card stock (canson) slightly larger than my rectangle die (My Little Paper World - Rectangle Nesting Die - TRIBAL) . I taped it down to my craft mat. Taped my stencil, where I wanted the pattern to go. Then I covered the top part (above the stencil) with white printing paper, taped this down. To make sure that I only got distress ink where I wanted the ink to go! Note: I've made many mistakes thinking that I could sponge the ink neatly and not get it everywhere!!! I've come to terms with the fact that I am a messy crafter who needs to take these extra precautions. I started with the lightest colour - ...
